Hey guys, Jess here!
Today is FINALLY the day! Wanna know who won? Huh? DO YA?! How bad do you want it?
The winner is – drum roll – KATIE GOSSON!
Big shout out to everyone that signed up, both times (still really sorry about that) you’re all winners to me.
When I contacted Katie to let her know that she had won, I took a few minutes to talk to her about why she signed up, and what she thought she would request for her bead inclusion. I am still stunned about what she had told me.
As a first time mother, I was bombarded with information regarding breast feeding, but I never felt like I actually knew what I was doing. At the six week mark, I gave up. I felt I was alone on an island, and no one knew it existed.
Katie has been exclusively breast feeding her now 13 month old son, since day one. However, she’s doing it a little different. Katie pumped her breast milk and she had been pumping, for 10 months. If you’re not familiar with the sensation that comes with pumping, it’s not fun. I felt like a farm animal. It’s literally a suction cup on your boob, that sucks out the milk. It feels nothing like having a baby latched to you, and your body knows it.
Katie not only pumps exclusively, but she has donated milk as well! She has donated to a local mom, and she has also donated some of her three thousand ounces to a mom in Ontario, while she was on vacation.
I asked Katie if she had ever felt like giving up, and she told me yes. Of course she had. There were days when she had clogged milk ducts, which can be and usually is, very painful. But she knew in her heart that breastfeeding was the only way for her, so she powered on with the support of her family and a social media group specifically for pumping mothers.
For myself, Katie is an absolute inspiration. She powered through something incredibly difficult and came out on the other side an absolute champion. Her 13 month old son is still receiving breast milk from Katie’s large frozen stash!
Let this be a light at the end of the tunnel for all the moms out there who are struggling to breastfeed! Don’t hide, don’t give up! Talk about it, find other local moms, talk to your doctor, find some groups on social media. Above all else, don’t beat yourself up for it. You know what’s best for your baby, and fed is best. Boob, bottle – your baby is getting what they need.
Again, big congratulations to Katie for the win, and a big big thank you to Blessed Grove Keepsakes!
Stay possible guys!
